Tyra Grant, Rising Star of Women's Tennis, Switches Sporting Nationality to Represent Italy

Italian tennis has been thriving in recent months, both on the men's and women's circuits, with standout players like Jannik Sinner, Jasmine Paolini, and Lorenzo Musetti.

Perhaps inspired by this success, Tyra Grant, born to an American father and an Italian mother, announced this Sunday her decision to change her sporting nationality. The 17-year-old player, who reached the semifinals of the junior Roland-Garros last year, had previously represented the United States.

However, having been born in Rome and spending her entire childhood in Italy, Grant has chosen to now compete under the Italian flag, as she officially confirmed on her social media:

"My decision to represent Italy stems from the strong bond I’ve built with this country, having been born and raised here. I truly appreciate the warm welcome I’ve received from the coaches.

I also want to thank the federation for the opportunity to play in Rome (she received a wild card for the main draw), in my birthplace, for my first tournament as an Italian.

I’m excited to begin this journey with the Italian federation. I’m deeply grateful to President Binaghi and the federation for this wonderful opportunity. Forza Italia!"
