Uncertain before facing Bergs, Alcaraz present at training in Tokyo
Carlos Alcaraz has qualified for the round of 16 at the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo. During his debut in the Japanese capital, the Spaniard comfortably defeated Sebastian Baez (6-4, 6-2) but gave himself a real scare against the Argentine.
In the first set, while making a forward run, the world number one injured his ankle and required a physio to apply a bandage to his left foot. Ultimately, it did not affect the rest of the match, but Alcaraz himself admitted he was worried about the injury.
Initially considered doubtful for the remainder of the tournament, the 22-year-old player reassured his fans in recent hours. Just hours before facing Zizou Bergs for a spot in the quarterfinals, the winner of Roland Garros and the US Open this season, among others, was present on the practice courts at the Tokyo complex (see video below).
