Alcaraz Continues Against Bergs: Quarterfinal Matchups Set in Tokyo

In a match filled with uncertainty, Carlos Alcaraz reassured his fans by securing a win against Zizou Bergs.
Carlos Alcaraz appears to have recovered from his injury against Sebastian Baez. The Spaniard confirmed his first-round success against Zizou Bergs. After being uncertain for much of this Tokyo tournament, the world number 1 was present on the court against the Belgian and quickly made the difference to secure the victory (6-4, 6-3 in 1 hour and 18 minutes).
Broken early in the match, Alcaraz reacted quickly, and despite some service weaknesses, he managed to capitalize on his return opportunities (3 break points earned, 3 breaks). The second set was clearly dominated by Alcaraz, who pulled away to lead 3-0.
Despite a late surge of pride from the world number 45, it was ultimately the Spaniard who prevailed in straight sets. With his physical issue from the previous match seemingly behind him, the world number 1 continues his run and qualifies for the quarterfinals of this ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo. He will face Brandon Nakashima for a spot in the semifinals.
“I had a full day and a half of recovery. I have the best physio in the world (Juanjo Moreno). The work he did on my ankle in the last few hours was incredible. I played almost normally. Sometimes there was that worry, but overall, I played a very good match,” Alcaraz assured on the court after his qualification, speaking to ATP media.
With Alcaraz’s victory, all the quarterfinal matchups are now known. The Spaniard will challenge Nakashima, while Casper Ruud and Aleksandar Vukic will compete for the other spot in the semifinals in that section of the draw. In the bottom half, the two matches will feature Jenson Brooksby against Holger Rune and Sebastian Korda against Taylor Fritz.
