Under pressure from start to finish, Daniil Medvedev dug deep to overcome Lorenzo Sonego at the Rolex Paris Masters. Winning 3-6, 7-6, 6-4, the Russian secures another quarterfinal in Paris and proves he is returning to his best form.
In the vibrant atmosphere of Court No. 1, Daniil Medvedev battled his way into the quarterfinals of the Rolex Paris Masters after a hard-fought match. The Russian, showing a clear return to form at the end of the season, defeated Lorenzo Sonego 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 after a 2-hour and 40-minute battle.
Medvedev came very close to elimination, saving three break points at 6-5 for Sonego in the second set, then erasing a mini-break deficit in the tie-break.
The 2020 tournament champion and former world No. 1 reaches the Paris quarterfinals for the third time in his career.
There, he will face Alexander Zverev — for a potential 21st career meeting between the two — or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, last week's finalist in Basel.
