Give us the right surfaces!": Nicolas Escudé's rant about the very slow playing conditions at the Rolex Paris Masters
Historically fast, the Paris Masters 1000 is surprising this year with its slowness. An evolution that Nicolas Escudé finds absurd: "They want to play all year on the same thing, with the same players."
Beyond the move from Bercy to the Paris La Défense Arena, the Rolex Paris Masters has also undergone a major change regarding its surface.
Historically fast, the tournament has now become as slow as Indian Wells. A strong choice by the organizers, illustrating the trend towards homogenization of surfaces on the tour.
A decision criticized by former player Nicolas Escudé, in comments reported by RMC Sport:
"Out of Alcaraz's 54 unforced errors (against Norrie in the second round), two-thirds are because he is caught by the slowness. At the moment of hitting his shot, he is not at the right distance from the ball, due to the slowness of the court.
This is indoor, it's faster than outdoor hard court, give us the right surfaces! They are trying to make it so we play all year on the same surface, to see the same thing all year, the same players.
