Unlucky finalist, Djokovic tries to be positive: "I have to say I'm very satisfied".
On Sunday, Novak Djokovic simply didn't have what it took to compete with Carlos Alcaraz.
Dominated by an impressive Spaniard (6-2, 6-2, 7-6), the Serb first congratulated Alcaraz and his team at the prize-giving ceremony: "He was really hot (laughs)! Of course, it wasn't the result I wanted, especially in the first two sets when my tennis wasn't up to scratch, but that's mainly down to Carlos' level.
He was incredible today. I tried to push him after saving the match points to stretch the match out a little, but he was a deserving winner today. So, congratulations to him, incredible tennis.
And to his team, of course, Juan Carlos and all his family, well done for the work you've done on and off the court. Everything you've done so quickly. He's only 21, it's incredible, so keep it up and we'll be seeing a lot of you."
Afterwards, the current world No. 2 took a positive view of his own performance: "I must be very proud, of course, but it's a bit disappointing right now because the match finished 10 minutes ago.
But when I look back over the past 4 or 5 weeks, with the whole team and family, I have to say that I'm very satisfied, because Wimbledon has always been my childhood dream.
I always try to realize how special it is to be able to play here and I try to remember all the matches I've played here on this court and how lucky I am to have been in a position to win the title here 10 times.
Here, I'm a kid making his dreams come true, so thanks to everyone!"
