Vagnozzi discusses how he trains Sinner: "It's essential not to become close friends"
Sinner resumed training on April 13 in preparation for his return in Rome on May 4. Ahead of the event, his coach, Simone Vagnozzi, spoke about how he manages his relationship with the Italian.
The media outlet Tennis World Italia relayed his comments:
"We spend 24 hours a day together during certain periods of the year, but it’s essential not to become close friends because friendship prevents you from making important and necessary decisions.
It’s a compromise where the technical aspect can’t take precedence because empathy is key. We’ve had discussions before, even heated ones. I remember Roland-Garros in 2023, during the second round against Altmaier—his body language was negative, and the opponent took advantage.
In tennis, it’s important not to give signals; no one should know how you’re feeling. We talked at length about that episode, and it never happened again."
Recently, the world No. 1 was spotted training with Indian Wells champion Jack Draper.
