Van Assche withdraws from the Australian Open
The year 2025 is not off to a good start for Luca Van Assche.
The Frenchman, who took part in the Next Gen Masters in December, was beaten last week at the Canberra Challenger by Dane Sweeny, ranked 320th in the world.
His defeat in the 1st round did not coincide with the encouraging form he had shown in Jeddah, where he had beaten Nishesh Basavareddy and Juncheng Shang.
And on Monday, Van Assche announced his withdrawal from the Australian Open qualifiers, which began today.
On his Instagram account, he posted a story explaining the reasons for his withdrawal: "Unfortunately, I had to withdraw from the Australian Open due to injury.
I will now focus on my recovery to come back as soon as possible. See you soon!"
He was due to face Alibek Kachmazov (197th) in the 1st qualifying round and was replaced in the draw by Shintaro Mochizuki (170th).
