Video - Alcaraz's Spectacular Point Against Shang in Shanghai 2024
Absent from the Shanghai Masters 1000 this year, Carlos Alcaraz was indeed present in China last year and was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Tomas Machac. Before that, he made a thunderous debut against Shang Juncheng (6-2, 6-2) in the second round.
Facing the talented Chinese left-hander, Alcaraz won in just 1 hour and 15 minutes, thanks in part to spectacular points. Although he had misjudged the trajectory of his opponent's lob, the Spaniard turned the situation around in the point with improvised shots from the baseline, which then forced Shang into an error (see video below).
Alcaraz, who had just won the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing against Jannik Sinner (6-7, 6-4, 7-6), continued in Shanghai with victories against Shang Juncheng, Wu Yibing (7-6, 6-3), and Gaël Monfils (6-4, 7-5). It was then Machac who ended his streak of twelve consecutive wins in the quarterfinals.
