Video – Fritz Hits Moutet in the Face Mid-Point During Queen’s First Round

Corentin Moutet delivered a high-level performance on Tuesday night at the Queen’s tournament. Facing world No. 4 Taylor Fritz, who recently triumphed in Stuttgart, the 26-year-old Frenchman showed grit by saving a match point in the second-set tiebreak before ultimately clinching victory in a nail-biting finish (6-7, 7-6, 7-5 in nearly 3 hours of play).
One of the standout moments of the match occurred right at the end. While the world No. 89 was serving for the match at 5-4, 15-30 in the final set, Moutet built his point to try and finish it with a volley.
But Fritz, who had a chance to earn two break points to level at 5-5, kept fighting and unleashed a forehand passing shot that ended up hitting his opponent square in the head (see video below).
Fortunately for Moutet, it was more shock than harm, and he was able to continue the match without issue. Despite losing his serve, he quickly regrouped and closed out the match two games later. He will next face Jacob Fearnley as he aims to reach the quarterfinals of this ATP 500 event.
