Video - Humbert a fan of the UTS: "A good way to unwind".
Ugo Humbert has been shining on the ATP circuit. The 26-year-old Frenchman was a finalist at the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 and won Marseille and Dubai at the start of the season, which gave him his highest ranking (13th) in April.
However, he has also enjoyed playing tournaments on the UTS Tour in recent months.
Currently in contention for the UTS London, which brings together the season's top eight players in this format, Humbert was the guest of L'Équipe de Choc to talk about the competition.
"It's a format I love, it's completely different from what you find the rest of the year. And in terms of preparation, it's much more intense.
They're 8-minute quarters, there's only 15 seconds between each point and the players only have one serve.
So there are more exchanges, and it's perfect preparation for the Australian Open. The biggest change is the length of the net, which is much shorter.
As soon as you open the angles, it's very easy to miss the net. There are lots of beautiful points and the public love it," he begins.
"It's different from the ATP; there are only three or four UTS tournaments in the year. We try to make the most of it.
It's a change, there's a bit less tension and stress compared to the rest of the tournaments during the year. It's a good way of decompressing and keeping the intensity up.
There are only big players taking part, so it's a good way to prepare and have fun," he says.
