Video - "It's much smaller," Gauff reveals the replica trophy during her return on a private jet
Victorious at the Roland-Garros tournament against Sabalenka, Gauff stood out for her impressive maturity despite her young age. At just 21, the American now has two Grand Slam titles to her name.
Upon her return home to the United States, the young player shared on her social media the replica of the trophy she received after her victory. Since 1986, each winner receives a copy of the Suzanne-Lenglen cup, with the original going back to the French Tennis Federation (FFT) museum. This amused Gauff greatly, who was quick to compare it to a bottle of Perrier:
"The trophy you see is the one we take pictures with, the one for addressing the press, etc. But actually, we don't take it home. It stays with the tournament, and I'm going to show you the one we take home. It's much smaller. That's how small it is. But, you know, it's the memories that matter most. It's very pretty and it's a miniature version of the real trophy that I'm going to take home."
