Video - Musetti-Medvedev Match Interrupted by Rain… Just Before Match Point
This Tuesday, Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev battled for a spot in the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters 1000. Just as the match was heating up, play was halted by rain that swept through the Italian capital.
The Italian, fueled by his home crowd, was on the verge of victory, serving for the match and even earning a match point at 7-5, 5-4, 40-30.
Due to the downpour, the duel between the two players could not be concluded and will resume once the rain subsides. In a silent stadium, as the sound of raindrops grew louder, Musetti executed a winning drop shot before both players headed back to the locker rooms (see video below).
The two could return to play… just one point. A scenario that had already unfolded earlier this season in Dubai, when Paolini and Lys found themselves in the same situation. Ultimately, the Italian had sealed the match on the very first point after the brief interruption.
