Still as formidable as ever, Djokovic gave Taylor Fritz a real nightmare in the Shanghai quarterfinals. Three consecutive passing shots, with surgical precision, perfectly illustrated the Serbian's legendary defense.
Novak Djokovic worked wonders in Shanghai last year, reaching the final before being defeated by Jannik Sinner. Along his path, the Serbian particularly demoralized Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals (6-4, 7-6), one of his favorite victims on the tour (11 wins to 0 in their encounters).
This service game played by Fritz at 2-2 in the second set is a perfect example. The aggressive American was subjected to Djokovic's dominance on three points that he was actually in position to win.
The former world number one, monstrous in defense, proved relentless and responded with three sublime backhand passing shots (see video below).
