Vienna: Berrettini overcomes Norrie after 3h16 of a grueling battle
After three hours and sixteen minutes of an intense duel, Matteo Berrettini, long lost to injuries and doubts, has just scored his finest victory in months in Vienna.
He had almost been forgotten. Matteo Berrettini, former world No. 6, long a prisoner of his own body, delivered one of the most intense matches of this season's end in Vienna. Facing Cameron Norrie, the Roman rediscovered his inner fire: 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 after 3h16 of a total battle.
For the first time since Monte-Carlo and his successive victories against Navone (6-4, 6-4) and Zverev (2-6, 6-3, 7-5), Berrettini has strung together two consecutive wins.
Victim of a rough patch for over a year, the Italian found his form again in Vienna. For reference, he hadn't reached the quarter-finals of an ATP tournament since Miami last March.
His next obstacle? Australian Alex de Minaur for a spot in the semi-finals.
