Vondrousova, Svitolina, Keys: Sabalenka's Tough Potential Path at Wimbledon

Wimbledon begins next week, and the draw for the 2025 edition took place this Friday morning in London. In the women's singles, the 128 competitors will battle to succeed Barbora Krejcikova, who defeated Jasmine Paolini in last year's final.
Absent in 2024 and currently world No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka now knows her potential path to the title. The Belarusian hasn’t been handed an easy draw and will likely have to work hard if she wants to add her name to the list of champions at the London Grand Slam.
In her opening match, she will face Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine, who earlier in the tournament defeated Loïs Boisson. If she advances, she could then take on Lulu Sun, a quarterfinalist last year, or Marie Bouzkova—a tricky opponent and a former Wimbledon quarterfinalist herself in 2022.
In the third round, she might face Marketa Vondrousova, who recently defeated Sabalenka in the Berlin semifinals and, of course, won Wimbledon two years ago.
At the start of the second week, a potential quarterfinal spot could see her clash with Elina Svitolina or Elise Mertens, followed by Madison Keys, Paula Badosa, or possibly Donna Vekic as she aims to reach the semifinals.
At that stage of the tournament, she would have a strong chance of facing reigning finalist Jasmine Paolini, Jelena Ostapenko, or Zheng Qinwen. In the final, she could meet Iga Swiatek or Coco Gauff for the title. Sabalenka has reached the semifinals twice in London (2021 and 2023) but has never played in the final.
