Wawrinka, 40 and Still Invited: The Swiss Will Indeed Be in Basel!

Thanks to another wild card, the Swiss icon will compete in the Basel tournament for the 17th time. Another opportunity to thrill his home crowd, despite the weight of the years.
Still chasing success on the tour at 40, Stan Wawrinka will be part of the lineup for the ATP 500 in Basel. Already invited to compete in the Shanghai Masters 1000, the Swiss veteran has received another wild card to play in front of the Swiss audience in late October.
This will mark his 17th appearance in the event, having reached the semifinals twice, in 2006 and 2011.
The 40-year-old is not the only local player invited to the event, as young Henry Bernet, 18 and winner of the Junior Australian Open, will also be taking part.
The No. 1 seed for the Basel tournament will be Taylor Fritz, followed by last year's finalist Ben Shelton.
