We had never spoken or exchanged messages," Sinner explains his unexpected pairing with Navarro for US Open mixed doubles
Jannik Sinner will take part in the new mixed doubles competition introduced by the US Open, which will bring together many stars from the men's and women's tours.
The world No. 1 will team up with Emma Navarro, ranked 10th in the world, for the event taking place on August 19 and 20. During a press conference yesterday ahead of Wimbledon, Sinner admitted he had never had any contact with the American player before:
"To be honest, it was completely unexpected. I met her for the first time yesterday. We had never spoken or exchanged messages. It’s a funny story.
Let’s just say the tournament wanted us to play together because other pairs were already formed. I’m really happy to play with Emma. I told her not to get annoyed with me because of my fantastic volleys! In doubles, I struggle a bit (smiles).
This competition will be something new. It’s great for fans to see something different. It’s always fun to watch top singles players compete in doubles. The pairs are of a very high level.
