We needed between £30,000 and £35,000 a year," Murray's mother reveals untold story about her son's journey

Considered one of the greatest players in British tennis history, Andy Murray did not have an easy path before reaching the top level. The player had to rely on his family's sacrifices to achieve his dream, as his mother, Judy, revealed in an interview with the Daily Express:
"The toughest time financially was when we had to send Andy to Barcelona for his training. It was in 2002, and he was about 15 years old. At the time, he was one of the best in Europe. He had to leave the country because he needed a tougher training environment with a different variety of practice partners.
It was like going to an expensive boarding school specializing in tennis. The problem was that it cost us between £30,000 (€34,767) and £35,000 (€40,561) a year. That was more than my entire salary. That period was a huge learning experience in my relationship with money. For most of my life, I didn’t have any money.
Even as a high-performance national coach in 1995, I earned £25,000 (€28,972). It was a very poorly paid job. I was self-employed for most of my life and only started contributing to my pension much later.
