We're Not Doing Things Correctly," Pegula Criticizes Mixed Doubles Organization at the US Open
Jessica Pegula will participate in the US Open mixed doubles alongside her compatriot Tommy Paul.
However, despite her participation, the American player questioned the tournament's communication and the fact that the majority of doubles specialists will not be able to take part: "We were surprised by the news, accepting that the US Open had quietly altered the format without informing anyone; they did it like that, without consultation.
Did you talk to the players? Did you ask for their opinions on possible improvements? That is something we, as players, are trying to work on with them, by strengthening communication.
I think that, maybe, if the communication about the future of the format had been better, our reaction would have been different, less radical on both sides.
Fans will always be thrilled to watch the matches, but we're not doing things correctly when so many unhappy players say they can't play.
It’s never a good thing. Many doubles players complain that it was a way to earn money, but now that means is taken away from them.
Of course, it will be a very fun event, I'm sure, but I wish they had communicated with us a little better.
