Wimbledon 2025: Last-Minute Withdrawal for Potapova, Mboko Moves into Main Draw
This Tuesday marks the end of the first round of the 2025 edition. However, last-minute changes are still occurring across the draws. On the women's side, world No. 44 Anastasia Potapova withdrew just before her scheduled afternoon match against Magdalena Frech.
Injured in the hip during Berlin, she had already withdrawn before her second-round qualifying match against Caroline Dolehide and later opted out of the Eastbourne tournament as well. Following this withdrawal, Victoria Mboko benefits from the opportunity.
The 18-year-old Canadian, ranked 97th in the world, is now repêchée. Despite her loss in the third round of qualifying against Priscilla Hon, Mboko will be the lucky loser and will face the Polish player later in the day.
The Canadian, who reached a career-high ranking this year (No. 91), is currently playing her first grass-court tournament of the year in London. She had taken a break after her third-round defeat at Roland-Garros against Zheng Qinwen.
