Qualified for the semifinals in Stuttgart, Ben Shelton will break into the top 10 on Monday for the first time in his career.
He will become the third American player among the world's top 10, joining Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul, ranked 7th and 8th this week, respectively. This marks a kind of resurgence for American men's tennis, as the United States had not had three players in the ATP top 10 since April 17, 2006.
At that time, Andy Roddick was the top American, holding the 4th spot in the world rankings, ahead of James Blake at 7th and Andre Agassi at 10th.
