Withdrawal from the US Open, Nishikori also announces split with his coach

Times are tough for Kei Nishikori. The Japanese player, a finalist at the 2014 US Open, has had to withdraw from the final Grand Slam of the year.
He will have only participated in the Australian Open, where he made a spectacular comeback in the first round against Thiago Monteiro. Since then, Nishikori has accumulated physical setbacks, as he often did during his best years.
But in addition to his withdrawal, he also announced the end of his collaboration with Thomas Johansson, former world No. 7 and winner at Melbourne in 2002:
"I just wanted to keep you updated on the situation regarding my coach. Thomas and I have decided to part ways.
I want to thank him for his excellent knowledge of tennis, but also for being a wonderful person and a great team member. I will keep you informed if any other changes occur in my team. Thank you for your support."
The partnership between the two began in 2024, with a strong return to form for the Japanese player in Montreal, where he reached the quarterfinals, followed by a finals appearance in Hong Kong earlier this year.
