Withdrawn until the US Open, Berrettini reappears in training alongside Sinner
Matteo Berrettini has not played since the first round of Wimbledon, where he was eliminated by Kamil Majchrzak.
The Italian then announced he would take time to reflect on the next steps of his career, withdrawing from defending his titles in Gstaad and Kitzbühel and pulling out of the two Masters 1000 tournaments on the American tour (Toronto and Cincinnati).
While updates on the former world No. 6 had not necessarily been positive, he posted a photo today on Instagram alongside Jannik Sinner with the caption: "Step by step with the best."
The two players, who won the Davis Cup last year, trained together in Monte-Carlo before the world No. 1 flew to Cincinnati.
A semifinalist at the 2019 US Open, Berrettini could make his competitive return in New York with a fresh mindset.
