WTA 500 Linz: Alexandrova and Yastremska go head-to-head in the final
The line-up for the final of the WTA 500 tournament in Linz has been announced. It will pit Ekaterina Alexandrova against Dayana Yastremska, seeded 4th and 5th respectively.
The Russian put in a faultless performance in Austria. After a first-round bye, she dominated Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-3, 6-2), Petra Martic (3-6, 6-2, 6-2) and then the tournament's top seed, Karolina Muchova (6-0, 6-4), in the semi-finals.
The world's 30th-ranked player will be playing for a 5th career title on Sunday, her first since Bois-le-Duc in 2023.
The Ukrainian, for her part, has not conceded a single set on her way to the final.
She successively eliminated Lucia Bronzetti (7-6, 7-5), Antonia Ruzic (7-5, 6-1), Maria Sakkari (7-5, 6-0) and Clara Tauson (6-1, 6-4).
She will be playing in her first final since Lyon in 2022, and will be looking to win her first WTA title since the Strasbourg tournament in 2019.
