WTA 500 Mérida tournament draw: Navarro and Badosa top the bill, defending champion Sonmez takes on Sakkari

After Mirra Andreeva's triumph at the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai on Saturday, the WTA Tour continues its season in Mexico, and more specifically in Mérida, where the 2025 edition of the tournament takes place.
This season's event will be a WTA 500, and a number of players will be on hand to challenge for the title.
Emma Navarro is the number 1 seed.
The American, who has made an average start to the season despite reaching the quarter-finals at the Australian Open, will be exempt from the first round and will take on Sloane Stephens or a qualifier.
Paula Badosa, meanwhile, is seeded number 2. The Spaniard will play in the second round against Camila Osorio or Jaqueline Cristian.
Other well-known players on the WTA circuit will also be taking part. These include Beatriz Haddad Maia (who will play Lulu Sun or Sramkova), Donna Vekic (who will face a first-round qualifier) and Marta Kostyuk (who will also face a first-round qualifier).
The defending champion of a tournament that was still a WTA 250 last year, Turkish player Zeynep Sonmez, invited by the organization, will have her work cut out in the first round against Maria Sakkari, seeded number 8 in Mexico.
