WTA 500 Queen’s: Shnaider and Raducanu Advance, Krejcikova Stumbles on Grass Return
As the first round of the WTA 500 Queen’s tournament continued, Karolina Muchova had already secured her spot in the round of 16 earlier in the day. Two other top players also held their ground on Tuesday.
Seeded No. 5 in London, Diana Shnaider made a strong start against world No. 24 Magdalena Frech. The Russian, who recently confirmed the end of her coaching partnership with Marius Copil, showed no hesitation and will now face Katie Boulter for a place in the quarterfinals. The British player defeated Ajla Tomljanovic (7-6, 1-6, 6-4).
Meanwhile, Emma Raducanu also claimed her first grass-court win of the season. The 2021 US Open champion had no trouble dispatching Cristina Bucsa (6-1, 6-2) and advanced to the second round, where she will meet Rebecca Sramkova.
The Slovakian delivered one of the day’s standout performances by eliminating No. 7 seed Barbora Krejcikova. The world No. 17 and reigning Wimbledon champion struggled in her return to grass.
Still lacking rhythm after a back injury kept her off the court from November to May, the Czech player has now lost three of her four matches in 2025.
