Iga Swiatek has tested positive for trimetazidine. The Pole, world number 2, accepted a one-month suspension which meant she missed the Asian tour in October.
She was nonetheless able to return for the WTA Finals and the Billie Jean King Cup. The announcement of her positive test caused quite a stir on the circuit.
Bastian Fazincani, coach on the WTA Tour, chose to use irony to evoke Swiatek's situation: "Oh, poor Iga.... A month's absence is so unfair,
so hard.
Your suspension starts after the BJK Cup and ends before the Australian tour. Basically you're suspended during the vacations.
We send you all our support in this difficult time you're going through!!!" he wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter).
