Wuhan WTA 1000 Draw: Sabalenka Returns, Opening Matches Feature Osaka-Fernandez, Alexandrova-Mboko, and Kostyuk-Muchova
The major tournaments are coming one after another on the WTA tour. Following the WTA 1000 in Beijing, which concludes this Sunday, it's time for another WTA 1000, this time in Wuhan. Despite the withdrawals of Paula Badosa, Elina Svitolina, Zheng Qinwen, and Madison Keys, the draw remains competitive.
The Wuhan WTA 1000 is set to begin. For the occasion, world number one and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, who skipped the Beijing tournament, will make her return to competition after her US Open title.
Exempt from the first round along with the other top seven seeds, the Belarusian player will face Rebecca Sramkova or Anna Kalinskaya in her opening match. She could meet Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek, the number 2 seed, will play against Camila Osorio or Mari Bouzkova to start her tournament. The Polish player is in the same section of the draw as Jasmine Paolini, Coco Gauff, and Mirra Andreeva.
Still competing in the Beijing tournament, Amanda Anisimova and Jessica Pegula, who could face each other in the final in the Chinese capital, might also meet for a spot in the semifinals in Wuhan.
