Yannick Noah to succeed Björn Borg as European Laver Cup captain!
Yannick Noah will captain Team Europe at the 2025 Laver Cup. This team exhibition, created by Roger Federer, pits Europe against the rest of the world for 3 days.
The 1983 French Open winner, former world No. 3 (1986) and captain of the French Davis Cup team, is following in Andre Agassi's footsteps. Last week, the American with 8 Grand Slam titles was named captain of the World Team, succeeding John McEnroe.
Noah, for his part, succeeds Björn Borg as head of Europe. The next edition of the event will take place from September 20 to 22 in Berlin, again with Borg and McEnroe as captains. The Frenchman will take up his post at the 2025 event, to be held in San Francisco.
Yannick Noah: "I'm really honoured to have been asked to take on the role of captain of Team Europe for the Laver Cup. I've been away from the game for a while, doing my music, but I'm really excited about this new adventure.
I love team competitions, the emotions they bring, getting to know the guys, how they are on and off the court. It's going to be great. I'm also looking forward to seeing Andre (Agassi) again after a few decades and facing him on the other side. I may have mellowed a bit, but the competitive side of me is still alive. I want Team Europe to win!"
Björn Borg: "There was no better person to take on this role than my good friend Yannick. He's a great champion, a great leader and a great person. I'm sure he'll enjoy being part of this great competition as much as I do. Of course, I wish him and the European team continued success over the years."
