Yastremska Defeats Parry to Reach Quarterfinals of WTA 250 Hamburg Tournament
Diane Parry hoped to become the second French player to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 Hamburg tournament after Loïs Boisson. To do so, the world No. 98, who narrowly defeated Tara Wuerth (7-6, 3-6, 7-5), faced Dayana Yastremska, the WTA No. 39 and the tournament's second seed in Germany.
On her end, the Ukrainian had eliminated Jule Niemeier in the previous round (6-4, 6-3). This marked the first meeting between the two players. However, Parry completely missed the mark at the start of the match.
Yastremska, sharp from the beginning, quickly pulled ahead with a double break and wrapped up the first set in just 33 minutes. After conceding an early break in the second set, Parry responded by breaking back and finally finding her rhythm.
Despite a tighter second set, Parry ultimately couldn’t turn the tide and fell in straight sets (6-1, 6-4 in 1 hour and 20 minutes). At the final changeover, the Frenchwoman took a medical timeout to treat her left foot.
Despite reaching the third round at Wimbledon, the Nice native continues to struggle this season and exits in the round of 16. Meanwhile, Yastremska will compete in the quarterfinals of a WTA tournament for the fifth time this season, facing Dalma Galfi for a spot in the semifinals.
