Yastremska Escapes Galfi's Trap and Advances to Semifinals in Hamburg

Seeded second in Hamburg, Dayana Yastremska smoothly reached the quarterfinals with victories over Jule Niemeier (6-4, 6-3) and Diane Parry (6-1, 6-4). To secure a spot in the semifinals, the Ukrainian, ranked 39th in the WTA, had to overcome Dalma Galfi, who had previously defeated Aleksandra Krunic and Nastasja Schunk. It was a tricky match against the world No. 111, which proved true on the court.
In a match filled with breaks (13 in total, 7 for Yastremska), Galfi led for most of the first set, but Yastremska ultimately pulled away in the tiebreak, winning it 7-1.
The Ukrainian, tested early, thought she had done the hard part, but the Hungarian leveled the match at one set apiece. Broken at the start of the third set, Yastremska finished strong, capitalizing on Galfi’s medical timeout for a right foot issue to win six of the last seven games.
In the end, Yastremska prevailed (7-6, 3-6, 6-2 in 2h20) and reached the semifinals of a WTA tournament for the fourth time this season. She will now face Loïs Boisson or Viktoriya Tomova for a spot in the final, which would be her third of 2025.
Earlier in the day, Kaja Juvan became the first player to secure a semifinal spot by defeating Leyre Romero Gormaz (6-4, 6-7, 6-4). The Slovenian will next face Ekaterina Alexandrova or Anna Bondar.
