Yastremska Dominates Linette and Advances to Her Second Final of the Season in Nottingham

Dayana Yastremska has successfully fought her way into the final of the WTA 250 tournament in Nottingham. The Ukrainian, ranked 46th in the world, faced Magda Linette this Saturday. The Polish player is the only remaining seed in the competition in the UK and aimed to hold her ground.
After victories against Eala, Xu, and Tauson without dropping a set, Linette this time faced one of her toughest opponents, as Yastremska had beaten her in four of their five previous encounters.
In their only prior match on grass, at Birmingham in 2022, the 2024 Australian Open semifinalist had won in straight sets (6-4, 6-3), and the same scenario repeated itself three years later.
Extremely solid on her service games, the 25-year-old conceded just two break points throughout the match. After relinquishing one of her two breaks in the second set, she managed to dominate her opponent, ranked 31st in the world.
In a match interrupted at 4-1, 0-30 for Yastremska in the second set due to rain, the Ukrainian stayed focused and closed out the match without much trouble (6-4, 6-4 in 1 hour and 14 minutes).
Yastremska confirms her status as Linette’s nemesis and advances to her second final of the season, following the one she played earlier this year in Linz (lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova).
For the title, she will face the winner of the other semifinal, which will pit Rebecca Sramkova against McCartney Kessler later today. If she succeeds, the player who was contesting her first WTA semifinal on grass would claim her first trophy in six years. In 2019, she defeated Caroline Garcia in Strasbourg after a thrilling final (6-4, 5-7, 7-6).
