Year-end No. 1? "Honestly, it's impossible"
Fresh off his victory in Vienna, Jannik Sinner has just added another trophy to his collection and continues to climb the ATP rankings. But while many of his fans hope to see him reclaim the world number one spot, the 24-year-old player has preferred to temper expectations around him.
"Becoming number one this season? Honestly, it's impossible. We'll see next year how things go. It's certainly one of my goals, but if I do the right things, the results will come by themselves."
A humble statement, as is his custom. But while Sinner keeps a cool head, the numbers speak for themselves: his performances are bringing him closer to Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP rankings: 10,500 points for the Italian versus 11,340 for the Spaniard.
So yes, it would take some serious underperformances from Alcaraz to hope for a return to the throne, but nothing is impossible for the 2025 Wimbledon champion.
