You are an incredible player and person": Coco Gauff's words after her defeat in the Rome final against Paolini

Two weeks after Madrid, Coco Gauff was beaten in another final, this time in Rome. Despite these two setbacks, the American—who will rise to No. 2 in the world on Monday—tried to keep a smile on her face during the trophy ceremony.
She delivered a short and sportsmanlike speech for Jasmine Paolini, who became the second Italian player in history to lift the trophy in Rome:
"I had a really great time here in Rome. I’ve played here many times, lost twice in the semifinals. So I was happy to make it to the final. Congratulations, Jasmine. It’s a really great achievement.
You are an incredible player and person, and it’s always tough to play against you. I wish you good luck in the doubles final tomorrow. I hope you (Paolini and Errani) win.
There are a few people I’d like to thank, like everyone who makes this tournament possible. All the volunteers, the umpires, the ball kids, everyone. And of course, thank you to the fans. You showed up to support me throughout most of the week.
I’d like to thank my team. Back-to-back finals—I wanted to take the trophy home today. But I know we’re working hard, so hopefully next time I’ll leave with a big trophy. But thank you for everything you do.
And I’d like to finish by thanking God for always watching over me and giving me the opportunity to be here. I’ll see you next year, thank you.
