You have to skip some tournaments," Sinner speaks out on the calendar controversy
Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz spoke out this week to once again express their views on the calendar, deemed too long by a large number of players.
Following his title in Beijing, this question came up for Jannik Sinner during his press conference. The Italian stated: "Well, I've already skipped many tournaments. Last year, for example, I didn't participate in several tournaments. It all obviously depends on the results you get.
If you go very far, like Carlos did this season, or practically every time you play, you at least reach the final... The tournaments are also getting longer.
The Masters 1000 events are quite long too. It's not a one-week event, but rather two weeks. Yes, at some point, I feel like you have to skip some tournaments.
But everyone thinks differently, right? For my part, I skipped a few tournaments last year because I thought it was the right choice for my body and mind.
This year too, I didn't play in Toronto, for example, or in Montreal. Yes, sometimes you have to skip certain tournaments. We always have a choice.
That's why I say they are mandatory, but ultimately, you can always choose. I've always chosen and I will continue to choose what's best for me.
