Zheng and Jabeur withdraw from WTA 500 Stuttgart tournament
Next week, the prestigious Stuttgart tournament will welcome some of the best players in the world. Eight top-10 players were originally set to compete in the German city for the indoor clay-court event. However, several players have already withdrawn from the 2025 edition.
Following Paula Badosa and Barbora Krejcikova, both suffering from back injuries, two more top players have officially pulled out in recent hours. These are Zheng Qinwen and Ons Jabeur.
The Chinese player, ranked 8th in the WTA this week, will not participate this year due to a shoulder injury sustained in Charleston in recent days. The WTA website confirmed the news.
As for the Tunisian, she had benefited from earlier withdrawals to secure a spot in the draw, but the world No. 27 is still recovering from a leg injury that forced her to retire during her third-round match at the WTA 1000 in Miami against Jasmine Paolini. She will therefore also be unable to compete in Stuttgart.
The WTA also confirmed that following Zheng’s withdrawal, Rebecca Sramkova, ranked 37th in the world, will take her place in the main draw. The draw for the 2025 edition is expected to take place in the coming days.
