The Entire ATP Top 10 Signed the Letter Sent to Grand Slams for a Prize Money Increase
Two days after L’Équipe revealed a letter sent by members of the ATP and WTA Top 20 to Grand Slam tournaments calling for a fairer redistribution of revenue, further details about the signatories and content have emerged.
According to AP News, all members of the ATP Top 10 signed the letter, while among the women, only Elena Rybakina was missing from the Top 10 players.
The letter in question, dated March 21, was addressed to Craig Tiley (Australian Open Tournament Director), Stéphane Morel (FFT CEO), Sally Bolton (Wimbledon CEO), and Lew Sherr (USTA CEO). The players who signed are requesting a meeting, which could take place later this month during the Madrid tournament.
In the copy obtained by AP News, the players are demanding a "more appropriate percentage of Grand Slam revenues, reflecting their contribution to the tournaments' value."
They also believe they should be consulted on "decisions that directly impact competition, player health, and well-being."
Finally, according to Corriere dello Sport, the first draft of the letter was written last year. It was then revised in Melbourne and finalized during the March U.S. tour.
The letter is unrelated to recent measures taken by the PTPA against global tennis governing bodies.
