Ruud, who was initially set to face Holger Rune, held his ground against Popyrin on his favorite surface. He secured the win in three quarters (17-13, 20-6, 16-10) to advance to the semifinals, where he will meet Andrey Rublev.
Monfils then delivered an entertaining performance in the Nîmes arena but ultimately fell in four quarters to Machac (16-10, 8-19, 19-7, 18-10).
