Humbert Swept Away by De Minaur in UTS Nîmes Quarterfinals
This Friday, April 4, marked the quarterfinals of UTS Nîmes, the second leg of the 2025 UTS Tour following the event held earlier in Guadalajara, which was won by Tomas Machac. In the prestigious setting of the Nîmes Arena, eight players competed for a spot in the semifinals.
One of the two French players in Gard, Ugo Humbert, faced off against Alex De Minaur on the clay courts of Nîmes. Unfortunately, the battle the spectators hoped for never materialized. The Australian, currently ranked 10th in the ATP, proved too solid for his opponent, winning in three quarters despite two tight opening sets that went to decisive points (15-14, 13-12, 17-9).
De Minaur is the second player to qualify for the semifinals, joining Andrey Rublev, who was the first to secure his spot in the final four. Earlier in the day, the Russian eliminated Ben Shelton in four quarters. The last two matches of the day will feature Casper Ruud against Alexei Popyrin, followed by Gaël Monfils taking on Tomas Machac.
