Zheng ends Kerber's career!

This time, it's over. Angelique Kerber had to bid farewell to professional tennis on Wednesday.

The former world No. 1, three-times Grand Slam champion, who has been on the wane for some time now, nevertheless treated herself to one last thrill this week.

Driven by that special feeling of the last time, the German was back on top form.

Dominating Osaka, Cristian and Fernandez, she came within a whisker of reaching the semi-finals.

Faced with Qinwen Zheng, ranked 7th in the world, Kerber held on right to the end, pushing her opponent to the limit in an arm wrestling match lasting over 3 hours (6-7, 6-4, 7-6).

Beaten with honors, she can now put away her rackets with a clear conscience.
