Zheng is Olympic champion!
She's done it.
Qinwen Zheng, world number 7, has just defeated Dona Vekic in the final (6-2, 6-3), winning the gold medal for her nation.
Faced with a Croatian player in great physical pain, the match proved relatively easy, although the Chinese player was slightly shaken in the second set when Vekic, driven by the force of despair, came back to 3-3.
It's a great story for the 21-year-old, especially when you remember that she saved a match point in the third round against Emme Navarro (6-7, 7-6, 6-1) before eliminating world number 1 Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals (6-2, 7-5).
