Zheng sets out her ambitions for 2025: "To be even more consistent throughout the year".
A finalist at last year's Australian Open, Zheng Qinwen is hoping to defend her points this year in Melbourne.
The Chinese player, now ranked 5th in the world, also reached the final of the Wuhan Masters 1000 and the WTA Finals, where she lost to Sabalenka and Gauff respectively. She also won the gold medal in singles at the Olympic Games.
Interviewed by the media at the Australian Open, Zheng is also looking ahead to 2025, but hopes to be more consistent.
"In 2025, I hope to improve on my best Grand Slam performance, that is, to go even further than the final. I know it's difficult.
It's the last stage, and everyone tells me how it's by far the most complicated to reach. I also want to be even more consistent throughout the year.
When I play a tournament, I try to make sure there are as few ups and downs as possible. I fight my match, I fight from the beginning to the end, to show what my level is supposed to be.
Last year, after the Australian Open, my results were inconsistent. I know it's not supposed to happen, but I wasn't mentally strong enough.
I tried to correct that after the Olympics, and I trained very hard. That's why you saw that after the Olympics, my results were more consistent", she assures us.
