Zverev defeats Paul in four sets at the Australian Open
Alexander Zverev qualified for the quarter-finals of the Australian Open on Tuesday, beating Tommy Paul 7-6, 7-6, 2-6, 6-1.
Zverev had the distinction of winning the first two sets, while Paul served each time to win the set.
This is his thirtieth Australian Open victory, and makes him the most successful German player of the Open era, overtaking Boris Becker's 29.
In a post-match interview, he declared: "I love night sessions, I can feel the ball so well.
I applied to play at night, but was quickly turned down.
I understand, Carlos against Novak, it's going to be a great match."
The German will be playing in his ninth Grand Slam semi-final, against either Carlos Alcaraz or Novak Djokovic.
