Zverev Escapes Sonego's Clutches to Advance to Halle Quarterfinals

Alexander Zverev had to dig deep to overcome Lorenzo Sonego (3-6, 6-4, 7-6) in the second round of the ATP 500 in Halle.
The world No. 3, coming off a runner-up finish in Stuttgart, was determined to keep shining in front of his home crowd at a tournament where he reached the final in 2016 and 2017. Facing Sonego on Thursday, Zverev dropped the first set after conceding the only break point of his opponent.
With his back against the wall, he showed enough resilience to level the score before clinching the win in a tie-break after 2 hours and 23 minutes of play.
Boasting 33 winners, 18 unforced errors, 10 aces, and an impressive 82% first-serve points won, Zverev now moves into the quarterfinals, where he will face another Italian, Flavio Cobolli.
