Bublik Upsets Sinner in Second Round at Halle
Riding a positive momentum since Roland-Garros, Alexander Bublik secured the biggest win of his career in Halle.
The Kazakh, whose game perfectly suits grass, posed a real threat to Jannik Sinner in the tournament's second round. Despite a strong start, taking the first set 6-3, the world No. 1 then fell under Bublik’s spell. The latter turned the match around in the next two sets, thanks to 36 winners and 15 aces.
Bublik proved more clinical on break opportunities than his opponent (2/6 vs. 1/9) to seal the victory in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) after two hours of play. He will face Tomas Machac in tomorrow’s quarterfinals.
Sinner, who won the Halle title last year, exits the German grass earlier than expected and will now prepare for Wimbledon.
