Eliminated in the second round at Monte-Carlo last week, Alexander Zverev reassured himself with a solid debut in Munich this Monday. The world No. 3 defeated Alexandre Müller in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) in just 1 hour and 20 minutes of play.
With this controlled opening match, Zverev will face either Chun Hsin Tseng or Daniel Altmaier in the second round. He is placed in the same quarter of the draw as Jakub Mensik, who will begin his clay-court season tomorrow against Yannick Hanfmann.
The German had won the title in Bavaria two years in a row in 2017 and 2018 when the tournament was part of the ATP 250 category.
