Zverev praises Rune: "You'll be seeing him here for 15 or 20 years".
Alexander Zverev will be playing his quarter-final against a surprising Alex De Minaur at Roland-Garros on Wednesday, and will probably be hoping for fewer problems than in the Round of 16. He needed over 4 hours of play on Monday evening on Court Philippe Chatrier to defeat Holger Rune.
Ill-treated by a talented and opportunistic Dane, the German champion came very close to elimination. Put under pressure and very nervous, he frequently pushed an opponent who wasn't asking for much.
The winner, having regained much greater consistency in the final set, felt above all that he had extricated himself from quite a trap, and was quick to compliment his opponent in glowing terms in the post-match interview.
Admiringly, he declared: "What a match! To be honest, Holger is an incredible player, a young talent. You're going to see him for 15 or 20 years here on this magnificent court. He's played incredible tennis since the start of the tournament. It's been a bit difficult for him this year, but this week he's played some incredible tennis. And I'm lucky, I'm lucky to have made it through this round."
Tonight, from 8.15pm, once again in the night session on Court Philippe Chatrier, the German will be looking to reach the semi-finals. To do so, he'll have to avoid another potential trap against an Alex De Minaur who has been quite impressive since the start of the tournament.
