And we know how Nadal goes end of the year ... but in saying that, this could be Nadal's best chance to get a title at Finals, because there was no HC season for him this year tiring out those knees.

Which means, Novak has to win x2 matches (400p) at Finals to stay ahead, and end the year nr. 1 for a recordbreaking 6th time.



Other than Nadal and Thiem adding smaller tournaments for the rest of the year, or Novak injury, line judges, Novak himself, it seems that Novak will be nr. 1 at least until AO 2021.



Of course with defending points it is very difficult to stay nr. 1, and next year is another year, but if he wins both RG and Finals, then he can add more this year than both Nadal and Thiem = 2580 points added to 11260 = 13 840 max.



Which could mean he will be well ahead of both Nadal and Thiem when A0 2021 starts, and both of these guys also have points to defend in first half 2021. Novak has only 135 points to defend at IW and Miami combined. It is only when clay season starts that he will have defend many points, Madrid and Rome, and if he wins RG this year = 4000 for clay season. And then Wimby, that is 6000 points to defend until end of grass season. But once again, his nearest rivalries also has points to defend, both Nadal and Thiem has to defend 2000 points at USO 2021, Novak only 180.



I would say until clay season next year, there is a very good chance that Novak can stay nr. 1 until begin of April next year, which will mean smashing Fed's 310 weeks, who some thought were impossible, and Novak still have at least 5 years to go, bar injuries. After doing that he can take a break, rest a bit, and give Nadal or Thiem the nr. 1 spot for a while, until USO 2021. ?



Seriously, like we know, anything can happen every week, injuries, loss of form, line judge attacks, Fed coming back with a last big bang, a young gun taking over, etc. can happen any time, that is what make our sport so great.
