A Relative Failure," Stubbs Discusses Sabalenka's Season
Rennae Stubbs, former coach of Serena Williams, spoke about Aryna Sabalenka's season during her podcast, The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast.
Although she finished the 2025 season as the world number one, the Belarusian failed twice in Grand Slam finals: at the Australian Open and at Roland-Garros.
Stubbs states: "She reached the summit by becoming world number one two years in a row; the consistency she showed this year was simply exceptional.
But with only one major title to her name, the US Open, I would say she would consider her year a relative failure.
She was so dominant, the best player of the year, and reached every final she played in.
I think she was very disappointed with her losses in the Australian Open final, the Wimbledon semi-final, the Roland-Garros final, and the WTA Finals.
I think for such a dominant player, the disappointment is immense for not having won more Grand Slam titles this year.
